Red & White Fete, February 16, 2008

The place to have been on Saturday night February 16, 20 08 was the West Broward Hall in Pembroke Pines, South Florida. The occasion was the SAOGA Florida chapter’s Red & White Fete, and from the buzz we’re hearing, it was a great success!

As guests approached the entrance to the hall, they were struck by the tasteful decorations of Chinese lanterns and flowing fabrics in the colors of the event and our alma mater. The theme continued inside with centerpieces, draped walls and tables, all a creation of Nicole White of Oasis Interior · Exterior Design. Numerous people commented that they had never seen the West Broward Hall look so good at any event.

The fete kicked off at 9 p.m. and by 9:30 p.m., the dance floor was rocking to the music of DJ Radcliffe. He kept the dance floor packed until the wee hours with something for everyone from Reggae to Soca, R&B and Old School. The only breaks were for dinner & the drawing of the gate prizes.

Mrs. Joan Gonzalez of Exquisite Occasions did an excellent job catering the event which started with a delicious array of hors d’oeuvres. This was followed by dinner which included a variety of jerk chicken and curry chicken with Jamaican rice and peas, potato salad, vegetable salad, plantains and rolls.

The grand prize of 2 nights at a Starwood Hotel Resort on Grand Bahama Island was won by SAHS alumna Carla Dixon, and provided by Diana Marley of Jacaranda Travel.  Second prize of a spa package at Contour Day Spa was won by Donna Chambers, a Holy Childhood alumna, and the 50/50 cash raffle was won by SAHS alumna Michelle Rose.

Many thanks to Belinda Smith, our photographer for the event.
